Building Use
Where modern society, with its technological emphasis, so frequently fails to uphold aesthetic values, the Church, following its practice since at least medieval times, has the opportunity to reintroduce these values through the ministry of art. Just as the great medieval Cathedrals were both spiritual and cultural centers, the Church in our time opens its doors to invite and embrace the community it seeks to serve. In addition to the great corpus of musical literature passed on to us for liturgical use, there has also been created a unique repertoire which requires the ambiance of the sacred space and which is rarely effective in the concert hall: cantatas, oratorios, passion settings, concerti “da chiesa,” liturgical music-dramas, mystery plays and the great organ literature. Like what is described above, we at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church are committed to the spiritual and cultural wellness of the Mankato community. We are especially pleased that your organization has considered this setting for your musical event.
In order to process your request for use of our facility, you are asked to complete the attached paperwork. Your group will be responsible for adhering to all requirements listed in the request. Our staff liaison will respond to you with the status of your request in a timely manner. While we are grateful to provide local musicians with the opportunity to perform concerts in our building, the reality of increasing utility, staffing, and building maintenance costs has demanded our financial attention. On average these expenses have totaled or exceeded $350.
If your events are scheduled as ticketed concerts or as part of a season subscription, we kindly request a minimum donation from your organization to defray the above expenses.
Additionally, the stewards of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church understand the importance of instrument maintenance and tuning. The sanctuary organ and piano are tuned at regular increments and for many special occasions throughout the year. If you desire that either instrument be tuned or moved prior to your concert, we will work collaboratively with you and our technicians to make sure this is accomplished. The cost for this interim maintenance will be incurred by your organization.
If you are not a parishioner, and you intend on using either the organ or piano for a rehearsal or lesson, a $15 fee will be incurred for each function to assure long-term instrument maintenance.
If you have any questions about the attached request and scheduling form or what is explained above, call the parish office at, 507.388.2995. All requests are processed through the parish’s administrative office. You can also reference our Space Rental page.
